I'm planning on throwing a little party soon, I was hoping some of you wonderful people here could give me some tips on how to avoid some of the problems that every party runs into or some of the costs that I should be expecting for permits or where to find good equipment for a good price. Any little bit will help!!

The reason I myself never endeavored to throw parties (yes I was inclined to try back in the day) is mainly because of the drugs and thugs problems. If you throw a reasonably big party, you are going to have dealers coming who demand free entry and free roam over your party. If you say no you might end up with a broken arm, unless you have security who can deal with those people, which costs extra.

If you plan on throwing a party, even if it's a smaller one (which I would suggest you start with since they present far fewer problems), don't expect to make money. If you make any profit consider yourself extremely lucky.

Why does everyone want to throw a party? Whats the obsession? Why go through the trouble when there are enough parties already to enjoy. Unless you want a custom made party where u get to call all the shots. Personally, I'm as lazy as they come. I'd rather just let my friends do all the work :P I like making stuff tho. Like gigantic milk cartons.

dude, don't bother asking questions, just throw the party!

1) don't worry about locations. you don't find them, they find YOU.

2) only book djs who are your friends. this avoids you having to pay them. don't worry if they've only been spinning for a few months, everyone will be too high to notice the trainwrecks.

3) if the cops or fire marshalls show up, the dealers at the door will be pushy enough to make them eat some pills and they'll be happy in 20-30 minutes.

4) if the authorities STILL have a problem with the rave, don't try to save it. sit in a corner and start packing up your shit OR wait until some acquaintances who REALLY want to party that night talk them into looking a blind eye.

5) flyers really aren't that important. black and white paper photocopies of your best friend's dad in a stupid jacket will suffice. be sure to make him say something witty!

6) be sure to drop off flyers 2-3 days before the party at the most inconvinient place possible, preferably NOT at a record store, leave them at a clothing store owned by a jew where the cheapest item is $85 and are a pair of sweatbands.

7) compile a guestlist as long as your arm and promise tickets to anyone who asks, all their friends and their friend's mothers. if you keep your fingers crossed, the mothers in question will show up in fun fur.

8 ) do NOT, under any circumstances, organise a clean up crew, coat check crew, or door crew. these things come together all at the last second and are usually taken care of kids who are really high on E and want to showcase any kind of authority over their fellow ravers.

the entire party should cost you less than $150, and you will make more than 10 times that in profit. if you follow these rules, your party will go off without a hitch! good luck.

ps- can i get guest?

Looks like Sharon's figured it all out. Most of the parties nowadays follow that exact formula.
