Do you associate the term "Emotional" with a style of music or being a lifestyle? Do you associate emo with being a sexual preference, hairstyle, or way of talking or expressing yourself?

Bands that get pigeonholed as "Emo" would consist of what to you?

Is being "Emo" being a poser? Over affectionate? Clingy? Psychopathic? Depressed? Angry?

Is it wrong to be emotional? Is it wrong to express yourself passionately about what makes you "Emotional"?

Finally, do you find "emo" is just a recycled stereotype used as a chracter identifyer, insult or term of endearment that people may use too often these days?

as far as i can tell, Emo was a very short-lived fad in MTL, its peak lasted one summer, and as soon as the 17 year olds turned 18, I believe they became Hipsters xD

Everything about that scene was terrible, and I'm glad it didn't last. The music was like some 'emotional' cheesy version of New-Metal, and then they went back to heavy with Screamo, which is just retarded.

I like to think that all the 'net memes and stuff making fun of emo shit helped kill that bullshit.

On a side note, songs or people that are emotional are not Emo, 'cause that stuff is real but Emo was just a superficial clusterfuck to make a buck off a generation for a year ...

And so yes, now when you call someone emo, its an insult ;)
I'm feeling you up right now..

If you call me emo, I get pretty emo, so then I listen to music which you think is emo. But you can't replace the term with "gay" "goth" "hipster" "raver" - so it's a tough one. To be called emo has a wide range of options.

Altho according to Bob Loblaw, these kids are too colourful to be emo, hence the "evolution" of that fashion, the scenesters.
I'm feeling the dangerzone right now..

I consider emo as a musical style. A sub genre of punk/alternative.
Bands like Jimmy Eat World, Thursday, Dashboard Confessional, Staind.
Come on you guys know this sound.

So basically the post-hardcore movement represents emo? I have to highly dissagree. Watch a documentary about Fugazi sometime. These dudes are so punk/non-conformist it would make your head hurt (not from whiney vocals) and they just get lumped in with emo because of the melodic vocals. These are ex members of Minor Threat mind you, I don't see how it could possibly be emo. GlassJaw,Alexisonfire, Thursday, even Deftones get lumped in as well. These are all post-hardcore / aggro metal bands. Image plays a huge part, none of these bands sing about cutting themselves or hard breakups and they don't wear makeup like BrokebackCyde. I think if you took the time to research what these bands are about you would find nothing emo about them. Maybe the haircuts, but those haircuts with the bangs in the eyes have been around since the early 1900's. So in the end being emo means being flamboyant or queer, is that what you're all saying?
