“The public spending cuts this year meant many of the youth summer schemes in London did not run. These riots suggest boredom — and inarticulate rage. The youth are smashing and grabbing the things society tells them to want.” -Pennie Quinton

The riots started in Manchester and it was mostly white people. Then all the poor blacks in London used that as an excuse to burn and loot there.

Actually its the opposite, the riot started in a area of London called Tottenham, mainly by groups of young black looters who hijacked a protest about a guy who got shot by the police

After that it spread to other cities such as Manchester, but at that point the violence there had nothing to do with the protest anymore, it was mainly people who were out to steal and rob, kids from all backgrounds as well as criminal gangs
I'm feeling sunshine right now..

I stand corrected then, had it backwards. And yeah it wasn't all blacks, just the majority.

uh huh. Das right. It's an economic riot. I'll just post a few quotes from an article 'cause I don't think anymore will be reading the entire thing. No direct link because of login

by MATTHIAS MATTHIJS is Assistant Professor at the School of International Service of American University and a Lecturer at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

..."Tottenham, a London suburb where a protest to commemorate the death of a man who was shot by police trying to arrest him turned violent. What followed was a viral response across the country that spurred many young people to violence, looting, and general disorder.

The riots are set against the backdrop of Britain’s ongoing fiscal and sovereign debt crisis and the coalition government’s politics of austerity."....

..."Average U.K. household debt in 1990 was well below 100 percent of total income; by 2007, it had grown to over 160 percent. Since the onset of the 2008 financial crisis, available credit to maintain this debt plummeted. And although the state stepped in to rescue the banks, no one stepped in to save the poor. Instead, they face cuts to welfare and social programs. "....

...."Today, the battle lines are drawn quite differently. Class politics are back, but in a new way. The 1980s were marked by a more traditional struggle between the state and organized labor. The present moment, however, is defined by a more disorganized class politics of reaction, propelled by huge inequalities and a perceived injustice and indifference by the state to the fate of those involved. This time it is also not about race. The looting youngsters in London are a mixture of both immigrants and English natives, and they have quickly and deliberately made their way into the fancier neighborhoods of the city. "....

....
As two female rioters told the BBC, “We’re just showing the rich people we can do what we want.”....

it's fucked up. it's a cataclysm..

what i am the most disappointed of is to see in my feed some people blaming it on or doing jokes about immigrants :(.

there's a reason why people are acting like fucking animals.

personally i really believe in revolt and violence through art and such but really a quiet revolution is really the way to go in our western society. we could have the power it's not like we need to take AK-47 and fight a total violent totalitarian regime.

by acting like fucking monkeys they just give more reasons for people to hate.

i believe social changes will occurred in our "inverted totalitarian" societies when people are going to become conscious. I really think revolution could happen via intellectualism.. why not? i can still dream :)
I'm feeling hitched right now..
