Nop, but i dont need to calculate anything to figure out that the more or less 40 people that read and post on the forum on a regular basis havent done any mathematics above high school grade. There is not many people studying hard sciences to begin with. So chances are that virtually no one can answer that question on here. Ravewave is clearly the wrong place to be peer reviewed about academic stuff. Even if someone did mathematics in the past, or is on his way to earn a degree, then there would be only one advice to follow. 0_o |

 Coolness: 93475 | hmm...in economics, most of the stuff is calculus, so continuous math...
I think Game Theory is discrete math because its all logic. And game theory is used in such topics as industrial organization, public goods theory, auction theory, social networking, bankruptcy negotiations, strategic management, etc. Game Theory isnt just economics tho...its also used in other fields such as Bio, and poli-sci. I think topics such as threshold models, and tipping points can be modeled with game theory. What about Accounting and Financial Analysis of Accounting statements? Thats discrete math. Then you have all of those casino games - thats application of discrete math. Cuz you're finding probabilities of winning using counting principles and offering payouts that are less than the probabilities. Roulette, Craps, Dice Games, etc. Hope that helps. Sorry Im not rly a math major. Just learned what I had to along the way :P |

You can look for courses (mostly in PDF or PPT / PPS or plain HTML) in Google or directly on some teachers' web pages (that you can find via the University/Faculty/Research Lab/Research Team webpages). Wikipedia is often well-documented for topics up to B.Sc or M.Sc level, for example: [ en.wikipedia.org ] gives you a good overview and list of pointers to more detailed topics, such as [ en.wikipedia.org ] For clean or alternative definitions: [ mathworld.wolfram.com ] If you're looking for books, you can search in Google Scholar or directly on the publishers' websites (Springer Verlag, Elsevier Science Direct, North Holland / Amsterdam Publishers, etc). Which university are you at? In which program/level? I'm at UQAM doing Certificat en informatique (4202) ( [ www.programmes.uqam.ca ] ). I haven't been to school for long so I was really rusty but I'm getting the hang of it ; it's hard to learn to learn. Doing short-term project isn't my cup of tea so I'm hoping some university will give me a shot at mid-term projects. I'm finding mathematics fascinating, it's quite crazy when you think about it.
