I sold a lot of these. They are cheap, they offer a lot (decent built-in mics, multitrack possibility, can be used as an audio interface that sounds better than low-end M-Audio crap, makes a difference @96kHz cuz most of that kinda-stuff doesn't) however they are quite noisy if you want to do your load of post processing. I'd say "go for the old gusto' with an older portable DAT recorder that sounds clean for the same price, even if it's a few bucks over the H-4)
Who cares about the media it records on: you can output DATs on spdif and most of these babies have a waaaayy better clock than a lot of "(very) average sound interfaces"
