Hi all

I'm looking for a loft for residential and musical purposes. I've been scouting around St-Henri/PSC/Griffintown during the last weeks but all I can find seems to be industrial/commercial. I found a couple of residential ones however they are bloody expensive with a what seems to be a snoby/smuggy neighborhood. Should I pretend that I am looking for industrial/commercial venue ?

Please discuss.

YOu have a home based silk screening business and need a commercial/residential loft
Only issue with that is you will most likely be pout on a commercial contract, which in comparison to a residential mandatory lease from the regie gives you basically fuck all in the way of tenants rights

i too am looking for loft in montreal, i would consider splitting it with someone provided it was the right person and the right loft, PM me if your interested...

I would say that you need a loft more for studio work, and an apartment closeby that costs very little, probably basically a room with a bed in it. They don't like you living in commercial lofts and our experiences with that sketchy 1619 place confirm it. Remember how that Pollack guy had all these bizarre rules and they turned out to be bullshit?

I think it would be crucial to actually have a bunch of uses for the loft and split it between enough people, without living there I might add, that it could actually be used for multiple purposes (graphic design, sewing / silkscreening, music recording, etc) and be useable for parties.

But I personally wouldn't want a bunch of sketchpads stinking up my couch every night.

Dude, I have to live there: I already have a rent to pay for the studio, which I might get rid of: can't afford 3 rents!

I understand, but lofts to live in are basically condos. It's either that or illegal seat-of-the-pants life with no tenant's rights. I personally found living at 1619 totally horrific, despite you guys being cool roommates, and all the awesome parties. I never dreamed I would have anybody in funfur cracked out in my own home.

I'm not gonna sign the lease with some old senile fuck like Pollack was. Also, you have to remember that the place wasn't commercial, residential or industrial: it was "totalitarian" zoned. Remember that phonebook-like document written in pseudo legal english with all these crossed out lines (even paragraphs) of total bullshit/contradictions (yeah, you metionned it) that was supposed to be a lease? I agree with you 100% on that.

I might seem utopic but I'm not gonna stand in the scale of those "faux New-York lofts" B.S that costs more than d'la marde de pape just because they just finished off the walls and putted 2 inches of varnish to stop the wooden floor from decaying. I'm pretty positive that I'll find something out of the residential and "totalitarian" zoning
