So Pioneer HDJ 1000s are good, but they break, and finding real ones is hard :P
Senheiser HD 25 are good, but they look boring :S
anyone here ever tried the Xone XD 53?
or what DJ headphones do you use? for what style? and what are the pros cons?
I'm feeling walls of sound right now..

love the first one (sony mdr500)but they break to fast and can,t be fixe with tape.
the stanton dj pro 2000s are perfect for dj gigs bo the sound is ok at best.
the sony mdr 750hd have good sound but there too stiff for djing.
I'm feeling not happy right now..

Personaly those Stantons are my favorite.. They're loud as FUCK and they feel way more comfortable on the ears/head than any other headphones I've tried..

The sound is OK in that they're really loud and not headphones you'd produce with, but really that can be said of almost any pair of headphones that sells for under 400$..

The Stantons also have the MAJOR advantage of a replaceable cord.. You can pull it out of the headphones and it's a 2.5mm adapter, so you can either get an official one if your cord dies, or you can just get a generic one and fit it in.. So when your cord eventually fucks up, no need to take it to a tech, no need to open it and solder a new wire in, you just unplug it and get a new one, and your headphones are still fine!

that's definitely an advantage, one thing I like about senheiser is how they have all the parts interconnected properly so you can fix them instead of buying a brand new pair that are just gonna break again...
problem with senheiser... not the prettiest either and way too much to choose from....

anyone ever used the Xones?

I've heard the sony's break a lot...

Let me bring a new attribute to add to this convo, what if I am willing to spend any amount of money on flipping solid awesome sounding headphones... does that change your advice?

If you're going for DJ headphones, you don't really need to spend an obscene amount of money.. good isolation and how loud they go are pretty much all you really need.. hell I'm currently using a pair of 19$ Skullcandy earbuds and they do a surprisingly good job of things, but that's 'cause I can't afford a pair of the Stanton 2000s..

IMO they're the best thing to get.. They're louder than most other headphones, they feel WAY more comfortable than any of the "round" ones I've tried, and like I said, the swappable cord right there is a MAJOR bonus, it's worth getting them for that alone..

I mean if the wires connecting the headphones together in the headband are going to break, chances are they would have broken in any pair of headphones you'd buy, and that the headphones have been crushed/busted beyond repair and you'd need a new pair ANYWAYS.. Not having to open your headphones and solder a new wire is a MASSIVE bonus, as that's the part that's going to break/wear out on any pair of headphones you buy.

jumping on this a bit late, but I'm using the audio-technica ATH-PRO5MSA

They're pretty basic but they're super solid. Like, they've been dropped down flights of stairs completely crushed by having fat people sit on them, I've had sex on them unknowingly, had beers dropped on them ect. They're about 3-4 years old now and they still work like new.

In terms of sound quality, "DJ" headphones shouldn't be about amazing sound quality. Using my headphones for production is a big fail because what they do is boost up the bass and high end frequencies. But that's awesome when your mixing because those are the elements you need to pay attention to. Also they're super loud.
I'm feeling wtf charles? right now..

for djing, you're using your headphones to cue the next track...

durability, comfort, and how loud u can pump em is all you really need to care about.

anything more is luxury...

unless you mix ENTIRELY with your headphones, even dollarama phones will get the job done. (altho not recommended )

the big sony 600's, the audio technica's (they don't only come in camo, also come in black) and the stanton's are all great dj headphones... the pioneers are also really nice, but too expensive...

I've used shitty 20$ numark ones for 3 years, the 30$ sony ones also... as long as you can hear the tempo of the track you wanna mix in... what else do you really need?
I'm feeling like ezbake right now..

honestly man, just go to moog with an mp3 player and find the headphones that are the most comfortable and sound the best to you. I'm pretty sure they'll still let you try em all out.

and why wouldn't you mix with camo headphones? They offer them non camo fyi

i have the senheizer HD 25 II and they rock out really more than mdrv700

its made for engineering and mastering, but can still play near 120 dB without distortion

so you can both produce and mix with them, and they are like 239 new at moog, replaceable cord too.

but if you buy headphones for the "look", then go with mdr v700 or the pioneers, everybody uses them, so you will look like everybody else!
I'm feeling hardcore right now..
