1994... New York City... The beginning of a new era in jungle, urban beats. Definition of sound...
2009... Montreal... Beat Concierge Productions brings the franchise home, up here, in our 514 area... What better to initiate this than booking a man that started his ragga-jungle elevation here back in 2000, and then eventually, in 2006, moved to where it all started?? We are very proud to feature the latest return of a montreal fav'...DJ KRINJAH!! Gracing our decks after having toured the world, Tao will surely have a lot to... spin for us!! He will accompanied by two of the french touch... Djs Kurart & Rotor will bring their knowledge to da decks! Dj Rotor has been lucky to be the touring dj for none other than Mc Jamalski (exit KRS ONE,NY) until his arrival in Montreal. Dj Kurart has a bag full of stories to spin us having been part of the french ragga-jungle scene for part of the last ten years back in France. The night will begin with Pleckobwoy, part of Six Feet High... He will show us what the result of solid drumming skills does behind the decks! Scratch session to be seen!! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ KONKRETE JUNGLE MTL LINEUP: 1000-1145: Pleckobwoy - Six Feet High - OUI-R1, MTL 1145-0100: Kurart - Koleoptek - France 0100-0200: Krinjah - [ www.krinjah.com ] - [ www.myspace.com ] NYC,USA 0200-0300: Rotor - Ruffneck Reality Crew - Paris,FR ++mcs Visualz by Artek & DiRt - NTK Soundsystem Cover 10$ Club Decibel Underground 4119 St-Laurent [ www.myspace.com ]

Konkrete Jungle started in November 94. they were representing for sure.. number one weekly in the States most definitely... but that was not where it all started. as an original junglist who was actually there, I gotta say that credit goes to Toronto ;) by that point in late 94, Toronto was already well-established as the number one scene outside of England, hands down. they were on the frontline for jungle/D&B long before any other city ask Andy C, Jumping Jack Frost, Randall, Darren Jay, or Goldie (who had all played Toronto by that time) and they will tell you the same thing here is a rare set I just managed to find online, when they brought Goldie over to play Toronto in 1992. hardcore jungle playing on on James St Bass' Harddrive show - 89.5 - Goldie & Freebass (Rufige Kru) and DJ Phantasy, November 22nd, 1992. -> [ www.cydonian.com ] hehe. didn't mean to hijack the event thread at all.. I just wanted to shine some light on the history of the music over here. big ups to Konkrete Jungle NYC and to and Konkrete Jungle Montreal! |

Thanks Recoil for the history tip... Always refreshing, but I must defend myself, even though it may seem like, in my original post, that I was referring to the birth of 'jungle in north america'. I was not. I was specifically talking about the birth of Konkrete Jungle. Which was in New York, in '94. Like you confirmed it, november '94. Toronto being mos def the capital of electronic musics in North America, sizewise, due to it's multiculturalness; the birth of jungle being there is easy to be foreseen.

They were plugged into the scene in England, and had their people over there making sure they got the ruffest records shipped over every week. Most other cities never saw those records show up in shops. So they were very up-to-date with the London sounds as they progressed. Originally Posted By DAPUZZLER

I thought you were saying New York City was defining the jungle sound in 94, so I wanted to clarify. but I see what you are sayin now, so apologies for the side-track. as I said, I have a lot of respect for those cats putting NYC on the map so big ups for bringin Konkrete Jungle to MTL - and yes, Krinjah is the perfect choice for this jam =) see you there |

Thanks again G, pardon my unclarity, but by "sizewise", I meant the size of the scene in T.O., not litterally the size of the city populationwise. Thus me mentionning it's "multiculturalness"... as in London UK heads, Cubans, Jamaicans, etc... --- Due to personnal reasons, our main guest Dj Krinjah, has unexpextedly cancelled his montreal return. The news came-in late sunday night... He sends his apologies to all who were looking foward in seeing/hearing him rock out in his ol'school city... Thus Krinjah has helped us find a suitable replacement! A man not to be taken with chopsticks... I call DJ SAIGON (T.O.)!!!! Having been around the block in Mtl back in da day, to have spun many times at Junglist Fridays@Blue Dog... He's no stranger to Mtl Junglists! Saigon will be launching his new mix CD intitled "The last days of Saigon" at Club Decibel. He his looking foward in rippin'up the dance floor at the Konkrete Jungle Mtl debut event! MCs EFES, SPECIAL S & LOCO are added to the bill. ***THE FIRST 40 PEOPLE WHO PAY COVER ON ENTRANCE WILL RECEIVE A COPY OF DJ SAIGON'S MIX CD*** See ya'all friday. 10PM-03AM COVER 10$ CLUB DECIBEL 4119 St-Laurent
