Pentagon Exploring Robot Killers That Can Fire On Their Own

WASHINGTON - The unmanned bombers that frequently cause unintended civilian casualties in Pakistan are a step toward an even more lethal generation of robotic hunters-killers that operate with limited, if any, human control.
The Defense Department is financing studies of autonomous, or self-governing, armed robots that could find and destroy targets on their own. On-board computer programs, not flesh-and-blood people, would decide whether to fire their weapons. "The trend is clear: Warfare will continue and autonomous robots will ultimately be deployed in its conduct," Ronald Arkin, a robotics expert at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, wrote in a study (.pdf) commissioned by the Army. "The pressure of an increasing battlefield tempo is forcing autonomy further and further toward the point of robots making that final, lethal decision," he predicted. "The time available to make the decision to shoot or not to shoot is becoming too short for remote humans to make intelligent informed decisions." [ www.commondreams.org ]

Do you remember that third one? Or the short-lived TV show? It's too bad Verhoeven only did the first one.

I know, Repost. But this looks like proper advancement.
Notice the stabilizing over terrain and interference. And the noisy version is because they run it with a gas power source for practical reasons. Near the end, you hear it on pure electric/hydrolics... A serious Gem...

Mise À Jour » cutterhead a écrit sur Thu 26 Mar, 2009 @ 5:00pm scanners was one of the butchered series, i even prefer thinking it was a single movie.
labeling the 2 & 3 as pirated imagination material, and garbage.

Interestingly enough, the mostly crap sequels to Puppet Master and Hellraiser go back and forth from shit to exceptional. Something that has made those franchises quite frustrating. Great makeup though. Mise À Jour » JasonBeastly a écrit sur Thu 26 Mar, 2009 @ 5:10pm Moloch: your post is the most relevant so far, but also the scariest. I'd like to see how that thing responds to a shotgun, because I'd be reloading and refiring like mad if I saw that one.
