Coolness: 83895	can anybody recommend a decent mic for home recording?? something that won't break the budget either.

Coolness: 83895	yeah that audio technica is around my budget... as far as pre-amps... it would be nice to be able to afford something fancy, but for now i think it might be overkill. i haven't got to test it out with more than my sm-58 at the moment but from what i've read online the pre's on my apogee duet should work out just fine for my needs at the present time. keep the recommendations rolling...

Coolness: 91410	apogee duet pre-amps are really fine. you don't need better with an audio-technica.

Coolness: 73105	I think it honestly depends on what your recording and where. If your in a shitty room with bad noise interferences (loud computer fans, furnace ect.) the sm58 might be the best choice. I'd give you recommendations if I knew what your needs were.
