Starting tonight, member only events... They will only be visible to members without having to invite people. This makes the event legally private and not public...

This has been implemented... This make an event not public to the eyes of the law. Suggested by someone who ran a location :)...

yeah, but it's still a member's only party, so even if they'd have a login, it's not "advertised" to the every-day masses, only to (and here's the key word) -members- of [ rave.ca ]

isn't a member of [ rave.ca ] someone with a registered account? i.e login with email and password?
Anyone can take the time to create an account

I got the members only business, ie anyone can check the calendar, but you would have to login to see the member event?

If I'm missing something here please explain it a little more clearly.

I understand the legality of it being a private party, but...

I don't think that member's only events would even show up for people not logged in.. (at least, that's what I gather from Noah's first post)

yeah, but since it's considered a private party, aren't there some sort of specific laws stating that they can't just go in, they'd need a warant, since it's not public? Just like the difference between them walking into a restaurant and your kitchen at home; they're both places food is prepared, but one is a public spot, the other is a private spot.

according to my source, a member only party is a private party and he has the court documents to prove it since the persons events (listed on this site) were evidence in court. if it was a private party (not to all the public) the event listings would not have been evidence. that's what i understood. the good news is this person basically won in court. but for the future better to be safe if you're running a venue throwing private parties. I'm sure if the person started doing events again, he would make them private and that's why he asked for the option. Good thing it was already coded. I just didn't implement it cause I didn't want to have this option but it's cool now that I think about it.
