Is There A Dubplate Cutting House In Montreal?

might seem like a ridiculous question, with most people now playing serato and CD mixers - but I have neither, so if I want to play an unreleased tune in the mix, it has to be on dubplate for now
plus there is something so nice about having a one-of-a-kind 10" acetate that only you can play on the turntables =) back in Toronto we had Scratch Free - which was excellent but now gone soooo if anyone knows, lemme know thanks in advance Liam R |

Chris (®Cola)
and/or Jacky Murdah - Chopstick Dubplate/Junglex can help you out, but I don't know if the cutter is in town or not. |

Jack Beats was the guy that used to run CHOPSTICK DUBPLATE.
But I think he moved back to the USA. I think someone else tok over the business when he split. He would cut it right in front of you ! I had a few of my tracks made into dubplates back in 1999-2000.

rcola might know the details?
just for the record... chopstick was known for cutting way louder dubs than anywhere else in canda... pretty hard to justify the costs these days though... especially for something that you can only get a few plays outta. but i think i'd still cut a dub just for the chance to watch the process.

last time i checked acetates were about $60-$80 including cutting costs.
and i think its a few hundred to cut a master plate (for pressing vinyl) a little pricey for something that you can only play about 20 times. some cutting houses will do vinyl dubs for you too. those ones last alot longer than acetate, but i'm not too sure about the sound quality???

yeah I've only ever had 2 dubplates cut for me - both at Scratch Free in Toronto. - they charged 85 bucks for a 2 sided 10" acetate
the sound engineer there was a guy named Kevin and he was a real professional - it's cool to kick back in the studio and watch this one-off record being cut right in front of you you have to very careful with them and make sure the needle is set very very light ... which is hard if there is a lot of bass in some clubs .... skip skip skip! - for that reason I have almost never played the dubs I have. |
