Geek Stuffs?

 Coolness: 178670 | Yah, me and boyfriend were wondering, why are some stuffs considered geek while others aren't?
I mean, I can understand that stuffs about computer and science, in general, are considered "geek", but RPGs? Like DnD? It's amazing, but why is it considered geek? There's no high-tech stuffs in there, it's mostly spells and swords... No nuclear fusion, or computer hacking... ;) So yah... Any ideas? |

 Coolness: 44685 | The definition of geek is someone who is very passionnate about a subjet, which isnt limited to only computers. That why you got comic book geeks, movie geeks, vegan geeks, D&D geeks, rave geeks, etc. |

 Coolness: 158260 | The best way I've come to define geekness is by classifying it. There are three terms: Nerd, Geek and Dork.
Nerd: Uses superior knowledge / technologies for personal and/or community advancement, either for personal or altruistical gain. Bill Gates is a computer nerd. Martin Scorsese is a movie Nerd, etc. Geek: Uses superior knowledge / technologies for personal or cummunity FUN, without need for a personal or community gain/improvement. Hobbies, if you will. A pro at DDR would be a geek :P Someone who know everything about shoggoths? A Lovecraft geek. Dork: One who HAS superior knowledge / technologies but refuses to use it. They come off as knowledgeable, albeit awkward people. Freaks. By "superior knowledge", I mean in a specific field of interest. Computer programming, writing, whatever. |

And someone replied something like "wahh that's too geek for me" And I'm wondering, why are those stuffs considered geek? I'm not talking here about geek people, but stuffs (books, movies, whatever) that are considered geek... |

| Coolness: 86915 | It's obscure knowledge, detaines by only certain individuals, and that does nothing to help you go through your life.
When most of it's content speaks of subjects often associated with geeks (medieval times makes people think of RPG, silly jokes and absurd humor is often qualified geek as well, or anything that makes people develop a cult-like movement around it ...), something is usually qualified geek itself. |

| Coolness: 44685 | Well, I think when someone says it's too geek for him, its just goes to a level of interest on a subject thats beyond him. Like being able to quote the whole movie of Monty Python. Some people like it bu tnot THAT much, so they call people who do too geek. |
