 Coolness: 64985 | GRIME, the new king of the U.K. streets, which emerged in East London at the dawn of the 21st century, is perhaps the most exciting sound to come out of the underground since jungle in the nineties.
It could be defined as a daring and coherent fusion of urban music and electronica. A whole new paradigm of musical integration. There is no questioning the fact that Grime IS the rawest form of U.K. underground music at the moment. GRIME... Raw, dark and menacing, futuristic, yet strangely primitive. The troubling echo of a world full of violence and devoid of hopes. Urban decay, tales of untold misery... Music for times of despair... ! The many shades of Grime : Vocal Grime ( sparse, minimalistic and brutal rhythm tracks, heavy dirty basslines, agressive and fast rapping : Dizzie Rascal, Wiley, Newham Generals, Lethal B, etc. ), Sublow, 8-Bar, Eskibeat, R&G, etc. Grime is often associated and confused with Dubstep, a similar but largely instrumental genre which also evolved from the early 2000s UK garage scene. It is true that they share many similarities. In this thread, I will post videos, clips, images, audio and whatnot... as an introduction to Grime. | Coolness: 64985 | After all these years of promoting Grime here in Montreal, I still believe that most people have but the faintest idea of what Grime really is.
Grime is NOT the U.K.'s " version " of American hip-hop. It is not mc driven music ( what we call VOCAL GRIME represents but a small fragment of the Grime continuum ). What Grime is : a new paradigm in musical integration. Grime integrates a great number of elements taken from other musical styles... Drum and bass, U.K. Garage, Hip-Hop, dancehall, soca, calypso, minimal techno, psytrance, hardcore, etc. Grime, for me, is the future. There's nothing quite like it at the moment.
