it seems to me that if you argue that the world is entirely logical you fall into a situation similar to that of Gwf Leibnitz when he says that we must certainly 'live in the best of all possible worlds'. if you argue that the entire world is logical you seem to deny irrationality which is absurd. |

 Coolness: 92225 | False. If it wasn't logical, it wouldn't function. If it could function illogically than the illogical would actually be logic. It is almost impossible to be illogical.
Mother nature doesn't think so much as we do, she only does and the delicate cycle of life is the result. Logic is how we break things down but it isn't/wasn't used to put everything together. A few reactions happened and set the momentum of life into place and here we are(unless you are relious, then fuck this whole thing). Imagine that someone just took this whole big handful of organisms and through them into a jar. Some of those organisms would kill others off because they can't logically coexist. But eventually you might be left with just a few organisms living cyclically off eachothers lives + waste. Logically you CAN introduced a super species that eats other carnivores all too well and eliminates all other carnivorous species in your jar but then there will be no food left for them to eat so they will eat the herbivores instead. The herbivores, already overpopulated and running out of food will either starve or get eaten and once all the herbivores are gone the super species will have no food and they will die. The plants mostly die from lack of fertilisation, over-eating and other unpredictable factors. You end up with nothing. Maybe some survivors of this grand ordeal will give birth to a new ecosystem and a new order. So yes it is possible to be illogical, it just necessarily leads to an end or a new beginning of an equally logical cycle. Nothing illogical is sustainable or truly illogical. Even if it is not sustainable it must come to be through a means which is a result of a necessarily logical cycle. When the logical reactions which keep that cycle flowing falls out of place, the cycle ends, everything dies or it regroups. It's not taking logic into consideration, it's just happening because that's how it happens. Logic is only a tool that we use to break it down. I also think it would also be dangerous for people to believe that the world is in fact illogical, similar to the backlash of the irish belief in fait. If you convince someone well enough that whatever happens to them was meant to happen then they aren't exactly going to get up off their asses and work like dogs to reach anything, they'll wait for god to show them their destiny. Similarly if you tell people the world is nonsensical and they believe it, they won't bother trying to figure anything out. They may find themselves leading very unenlightened lives. |

As far as I can understand, there is only one answer to the question. Linguistically-A fact must be proven, It is impossible to prove the statement is true therefore it is false. Now false doesn't mean that the world is not a rational place "The world is itself rational", Is a defendable statement. I find it funny that only one person answered that, the rest attacked or defended rationalism. What I understand is that logic is the language of human exploration, understanding and communicating. (here is where ppls will disagree) Do we project this language on the world or is it the language of the world? Expecting the world to work how we understand isn't egotistical? Is that not us just trying to replace God with our rationality? Putting humans at the center of existence? It is comforting to think that we could understand everything, but is it True? Somehow I think the universe is bigger than that, we are less important than that. But this is hardly a debate on my part, more of a feeling or belief, but I enjoy testing my beliefs even if it seams they are "welded into my brain". I enjoy being proven wrong, I may be hard headed, but I hold Truth in the highest regards. |
