 Coolness: 75725 | I got the news after work yesterday. There are a lot of people out there who owe a lot to Wai. Back in '98 I spent six weeks on the road with him and the Technostate crew. We played a bunch of shows and had a really crazy time. It was total Spinal Tap nonsense. I remember there was a big argument when we were in Chicago and Wai took off in his car. We thought he'd just gone to get dinner, but it got later and later.
He came back sometime in the middle of night initially said he'd checked out some club and had a great time... later he told me that he'd gotten lost and didn't have phone numbers for anyone... he'd stolen a map while at a gas station so that he could figure out where he was and then figured out how to get back. He was a relentlessly enthusiastic guy... and I was reflecting back on that tour today. I remember driving from Albany to New York city... and I pulled out the Spells cassette by Snares - because it was one of the few things we hadn't listened to in the car. He was so pissed that I hadn't played it for him earlier. Later on he ended up putting out the first cd release by Snares. He played here in October. It was the first time I'd seen him since the tour. We had a couple of drinks and did some catching up. Sucks that he's gone. We shared some intense times. R.I.P. |

He's the guy that introduced me to all the warehouse parties, well cause he was actually my first party friend in New-York. I met him in the subway with 5 of his friends from SF and we we're all riding to this party at the Luna. He kinda saw we we're hyped up, but speaking french. First thing he did was slap me that Venetian Snare CD he'd just put out in my hands. Like a kid handing his lolypop, hehehe. We spammed the subway like crazy with Isolate stickers. I didn't miss a week-end with him that summer. It was either the Subtonic, Luna, Havoc soundsystem off Brooklyn ave, or at Larisa's always getting smashed on late night 40s. I don't think he could start a sentence without a nose laugh. what happened... this is so fucked. Gen thx for letting me know, still. |
