Just a general question about turntable settings (weight, arm height etc)

I ve noticed that my technics turntable skips when I try to cue a record, I m wondering if anyones got general guidelines to how they set their arm, weight height, etc

I ll cue the record fine, but often itll skip back to earlier then the spot I m at…

Am I explaining this ok ?
I dunno if it makes sense but its damn annoying, cant keep it at the precise spot…

Turntable advice links/sites?

if its 1200, get a blank vinyl, and ajust the skip wheel so when you put the needle on the blank plate it stays in the middle

and depending on the needle, be sure there is not too much weight, as too much is like not enough...

if your needles are new that might be the problem as well...

new needles are really stiff.

its recomended to let your new needles sit over night on the platter with a little weight to break em in.

and if your weight is almost to the max that could definately be the problem as well...

too much weight will make em skip too... not to mention it distorts your sound and rips apart your records.

maybe your tone arm is fucked. i mine is. there are bearings in there. i flew them to nunavut a few times and they got banged around in the flight case. i gotta replace a tone arm on one of them now. the bearings of the tone arm are fucked. i'll post a guide on that in a minute. poot

i agree with this, you might want to just your decks play for a few hours a day without touching them, you know where the needle in a bit, also did you move your set up around maybe the part of the floor it's on is slanted, put a glass of water on the table your decks are on and see if the water line is level...

Or maybe your vinyle itself is warped.. sometimes that affects shit.. or your slipmat might be the problem as well..

Pete Ashdown's instructions for balancing a tone-arm and calibrating the anti-skate are about as concise as any you'll find. I haven't seen an updated FAQ in a long-ass time, but there's a lot of good info here - and aside from some minor modifications and cosmetic changes the 1200s haven't changed too much over the years.

I've fixed a few tonearm problems in the past you have to adjust the Inner and outer screw adjustement at the top of the pivot for the tonearm just right so that the setscrew doesn't press to hard on the bearing inside... It's pretty tough to get just right... And don't tighten too much cuz the bearing could get dammaged... Benji I can come over and take a look at it when ever you like man!
I'm feeling angry at my neigbors right now..
