| Coolness: 40525 | I saw Fear no Evil. Worse movie with zombies. The DVD Back cover says that it's zombie fest, due to the arrival of the Anti-Christ. The movie, however, is really about a guy who looks like a Rocky Horror Picture Show wannabe, in drag, fighting angels with a zombie CAMEO (that is, they're really only there in the last ten minutes for no good reason). |

It's the "Howling 7" of zombie flicks This movie oughtta come with a sticker that says WARNING: MAY CAUSE VIEWER TO SERIOUSLY CONTEMPLATE THROWING WHATEVER?S IN REACH AT THE TV. Yes folks, it's that bad. I considered tossing it in with the other sixteen bottomscrapers in the barrel, but the first ten minutes or so are reasonably cool. Yeah, it's probably sucked a lot of people in like it did me. It has some pretty cool box art - and the poster shown at the IMDb is even cooler. It's an Italian zombie movie, and Italian zombie movies tend to deliver the gore goods even when they offer nothing else. So the first impression is that you might have a good time at this one. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. Okay, here's why I call it the Howling 7 of zombie movies. Here I am with a stopwatch, and I'm gonna time exactly how much zombie action is in this movie. Here goes...done. 87 seconds. Now, three of those seconds is just hands poking out of a wall. I should hope that that doesn't really count. Ten of those seconds is just a handicammed image of a very fresh corpse opening its eyes and laughing. Gimme a break! Nix those ten seconds. Three more seconds is of that same corpse climbing out of its grave and...doing nothing hostile at all. Buh-bye. And the very last minute is composed of one zombie walking. Walking! And hugging. Walking and hugging. This is not what I'd call good zombie action. That leaves us with ONE SECOND of zombie action in this movie, and it's about a minute into the film. The rest of the film - all 100 minutes of it - consists of people talking. A LOT. And none of them say anything interesting. Like I said, the movie began well, but its slide into terminal crapitude became evident when this professor explains just what a K-zone is. The camera just goes back and forth between the prof (who never seems to take a breath) and the increasingly bored man who serves as his audience. You might be wondering what a K-zone is right now, since I haven't described the (oh, for chrissakes) plot. I shan't bother. Better yet, here's the fuckin' plot - people stand around and talk. Avoid or risk damaging your TV. |

| Coolness: 685580 | Well, then we're not talking about zombies anymore, because apart from 28 days later, the ones you mention are all movies with aliens that try and assimilate themselves into the general populace, as opposed to a plague of some sort that leaves very obvious and unsubtle enemies. |

| Coolness: 40525 | I don't see zombie movies that way (or invasion movies). I see them as "outside influence forcing a few people to break their social barriers in order to survive".
The whole point of Night of the Living Dead was to show that not every red-blooded White American has the ideal solution and the heroic Black Man can save the day... mostly. It wasn't about zombies at all. |

| Coolness: 685580 | well, if you look at the "original" zombie series, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead (NOT THE REMAKE), Day of the Dead, and I guess I have to add Land of the Dead now, the message was something similar. Zombies would occur whenever someone died with their brain intact, weather it was a car accident, burned alive, stabbed, shot, drowned, they just had to die and the brain had to be intact. If people stopped arguing, put aside their beliefs, religious, moral, racist, whatever, for the better of society and start working together, the zombies would not have been an issue. They're all so SLOW, the only way they could be dangerous is in groups, therefor the humans need to organise themselves in groups to fight and survive. If you watch them, any time someone dies from zombies, it's usually because someone did something stupid and based on their beliefs or prejudices. If they'd have all locked up in the basement instead of tried to defend the fort, they would have lived. There would have been enough people to notice/take out the girl, and the zombies couldn't break the door to the basement, and the next day the rednecks would have come to save the day. The problem is that no one was willing to listen to anyone's plan and really, REALLY think about it, they based their decisions solely on the fact that Cooper seemed to be a hot-headed asshole, and that Ben seemed to be thinking things through and was being verbaly victimized by Cooper, so Ben seemed to be more "credible" than the guy that seemed to be more racist. |

Let us not forget the zombified little girl who killed the mother while everyone was looking away! Imagine her waking up while everyone is down. The noise would have attracted the zombies from outside. Ben HAD good ideas... Just not excellent ones. A question I've always wondered is why is Romero so fixed on having a cool-headed black protagonist? Even in Land, though zombified, the black man seemed like the "pure" guy in the movie. |
