imo, you should export the wav file and then master it in soundforge for example. i use a plug-in called Ozone 3 with Peak and it sounds really good :)

well to do a real mastering job, you'd need to do it all within the multi-track environment... It's not really anything "quick and easy", takes a while to get it sounding right. Keep all your levels resonably low, filter out frequency ranges you don't use (you don't need high-end on the bassline, you don't need bass on your snares/hats, etc)

the Waves stuff is amazing. And upgrade to FL6, the mixer is waaaaaaaay better designed.

I send my stuff out to have mastered..its an art form in itself. depending on who I go with it costs me between 20-40$ a track.

Well, a bad/improper mixdown will never be able to be mastered "properly" because you can't affect the individual part's levels/eq. You cut the bass, you cut ALL the bass, not just your bassline, but your kick as well, you tweak the mids, and it'll fuck with your snares, synths, guitar, etc..

for a proper mastering job you really need to make sure every individual part sits properly in the mix. That's what mastering is. If everything sounds alright, then you can run it through things like ozone or t-racks, but if the tune itself isn't mixed down properly, no amount of post-processing will make it sound like a pro job.

heres the number 1 rule of mastering...

DON'T DO IT YOURSELF!!

finish your mixdown, mono your bass/ fx and hand it off to someone who knows what they are doing and has NEVER HEARD THE TRACK BEFORE.

you've already listened to it a million times and need an "objective" ear for the mastering stage.

also the average mastering engineer has 30+ years experience and works in a completely different kinda studio than a recording engineer or a producer.

not to mention...

most musicians/ dj's/ producers have very bad hearing and literally have no buisness mastering anything with there fucked up ears.

if your samples sound like they need "cleaning up" go back to the source and find out where the problem lies.

you can polish a turd all you want...

but a turd is a turd nonetheless.
