| Coolness: 509695 | is it really that bad? All i really want it for is to get control over and mold some crazy samples/patterns... and use it during live sets and shit. A good laptop is well over 2000$, can the MC-909 not work with other sources and add to them? |

| Coolness: 685725 | It can do some stuff, but like others have said before, it's pretty much a toy. You'd be better off with a couple of the Korg boxes for flexibility. |

DMTio: I actually thought I wanted it even more after seeing your v-synth, but you say I can already do all that it can do? I guess I really am overestimating the MC 909 then. Here's a better question, what would the MC 909 be good for? other than holding doors open :P |

| Coolness: 73220 | The problem with groove-boxes is that they don't play too well with others, combined with mediocre at best sound quality you'll be playing the same stuff over and over agian. If you want a drum machine or something for live sets you'd be much better of with a korg er-1 or soemthing like somebody said. I think the Electribe was going for 399$ at moog audio, not sure if they have any left.
It's basically a shitty sequencer with some samples... The Mc-909 would be good for a beginner making music who doesn't have a clue how to make any electronic music... you've obviously surpassed that level. |

i think you are making this machine out to be alot worse than it acctually is.... i personaly wouldn't run out to drop 700 bucks on it... but i don't think its that bad of a machine. its got a pretty big sample bank not to mention a built in sampler... the sound quality is decent and its way more flexible than anything korg makes... i'm sure it could sound fat through the right pre-amp... the down fall with this particular machine is that its digital... and the operating system is kinda cumbersome. anyone who says groove boxes are toys is fuckin' retarded... they were around long before frutti loops and no computer software can compare to that hands on feel you get from a hardware sequencer. mind you... midi synching is fuckin' whore of a bitch and yer better off recording adio, but i wouldn't dissmiss such a cool instrument as the 909 altogether... its got alot of great "classic" sounds and works well when interfaced to a computer via its usb port. there is alot better machines i'd buy for 700 bucks... but i wouldn' call this one a piece of shit either. |

computers suck ass in live situations... they crash, bug out ect.... and if you want them to sound good you gotta put major cash into them. your sound quality is only as good as your sound cards output quality.... and most ppl don't want to spend 800$+ on a sound card. not to mention there is a certain creative factor involved... i've got some cheap ass korg sequencers at home and i gotta admit that, though limited... hardware sequencers are alot more creative than software. i have alot of sounds that i would have never achieved with my software.... even though my software can do the same thing... i wouldn't have gotten there without a hands on approach. sure you can get all sorts of midicontrolers to mimic the feel... but they are also expensive and just not the real thing. not to mention alot of the older model sequencers 303's, 808's, korg er-1's ect. are analog... and i don't an analog computer exists yet? nor does a decent version of windows.... use whatever lets you be the most creative. and sometimes limitations acctually encourage creativity. |
