Authorities in the United States have busted a drug-running operation on the border of Washington state and British Columbia that used a tunnel to transport marijuana. CTV News Vancouver confirmed that the RCMP officers were involved in the Wednesday bust, which was led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Homeland Security is also involved in the investigation. A greenhouse targeted in the search was near 264th Street and Zero Avenue in Langley, B.C., south and east of Vancouver. The town on the U.S. side of the border is Lynden, Wash. The tunnel was described as sophisticated and well-maintained. Authorities had been watching construction on the site for eight months. The exact length of the tunnel was not known, but a source told the Associated Press that it ran from the building on the Canadian side south to a house on the U.S. side about 90 metres from the border. KING-5 in Seattle reports that arrests have been made. AP reported three to five arrests. The DEA is not providing any further details, but the U.S. Attorney handling the case will speak at a news conference in Seattle Thursday morning. The DEA and the White House have complained previously about the volume of Canadian marijuana (known as "B.C. Bud") entering the U.S. through Washington state. An estimated 880 to 2,200 tons of marijuana are grown in Canada, according to a report in Time magazine last year. Police estimate 90 per cent of the crop ends up in the U.S. White House drug czar John Walters once blamed the high potency of B.C. Bud in part for a rise in marijuana-related emergency room incidents. "Canada is exporting to us the crack of marijuana," Walters said. |

I know what you mean. The only thing that I question is how bad others get affected? Is the Weed really THAT potent? There was an article that followed this one about "Drugs Use Increasing Worldwide" and the UN mentioned that betweem the U.S and Africa, they have the highest rates of people checking themselves in rehab for Marijuana addiction. Now I've been smoking copious amounts of weed since the beginnings of teenage life -sure I may be lazier and a bit more dull around the edges of my mind, yet I don't think that marijuana could ever affect me in such a degenerative way that I would need to goto the hosptial. Amphetamines and other opiates; yes. Marijuana; are you serious? I thought "half-baked" was fiction. |

At one point I remember them saying that there are more car accidents related to pot than to alcohol, so maybe that's what they are talking about. Things that involve timing/co-ordination/NOT spacing out. |

BC accounts for $10 billion. In contrast, BC's major export industry is the $6 billion forestry industry. So weed is making $4 billion more in UNTAXED dollars than the largest legitimate industry in BC. Simple economics suggests its time to legalize. |

You can not export 10 billion dollars worth of drugs to the USA and so you can't consider it as part of the economy; I'm sure a lot of hash and shrooms and pills are also exported and making millions of dollars!
