It looks like the Internet Archive (being">www.nytimes.com ] sued as part of a trademark dispute case between two rival companies.

One company used the Way Back Machine to get cached pages to prove their case against the other company, so the other company sued the Internet Archive.

What the fuck.

bah, they're just mad.

doesn't really matter, these sorts of suits fall appart since the likes of google have been sued for exactly the same thing.. "google cache"

i hope it falls apart, cuz wayback machine being limited or worse, shut down just cuz of some corporate feud would suck serious camel balls. why dont they sue libraries for keeping newspaper archives, or better yet, sue optometrists for providing glasses for the far-sighted investigating officer while theyre at it.

"Last week Healthcare Advocates sued both the Harding Earley firm and the Internet Archive, saying the access to its old Web pages, stored in the Internet Archive's database, was unauthorized and illegal."

so lemme get this straight, if I locally save a webpage for further reference and laer on use it as evidence, I may be sued for illegal activities?

since when is storing (with no commercial purpose) content a crime?

I hope google's precedent is enough because this is just plain ridiculous.

In australia it was recently ruled to be illegal to make backup copies of media that you own.

If you buy a CD, and want to listen to it on your iPod, you have to buy it with iTunes and can't rip your CD because it's circumventing a DMCA-style law.

I'm with ya Zeev.

Remember : when you ain't got nothing to go to court with, just find a way to sue someone about it.

You ran over someone and the victim is suing you ? No problem ! Sue your car's company citing the lack of precision and response or the car, which could've avoided the accident. If you so happened to be drunk at the time ? Hell, sue the beer company citing nowhere on the label is it written that alcohol will diminish your reflexes OR better still, sue the bar you were at for not advising you of the potential effects alcohol will have on you, driving or no driving.

Welcome to North America.

If you live on this continent and you piss someone off, consider yourself sued.

Lawyers are the scum of the earth because not only to they help people sue for really retarded reasons, knowing that obviously they will lose, but they even PROFIT from it. They are as smart as they are Hell's minions.
