I'm interested in getting one, would prefer not to spend more than 2000$ or so on one... Will use it for music production and stuff so need some decent power. Prefer PC based system (Mac doesn't run a lot of my programs and is very expensive for my needs). Looking for decent battery life if possible.

Can't decide on dell/toshiba/sony and whatnot, anyone have any suggestions for a decent system to get? Aiming for 2000$ price tag area.

you should go with Dell. The price is really decent and the after sale service is very cool

The Toshiba Satelites are aparently really stable and have good battery life, though good luck doing anything musical on the battery...

everyone keeps telling me about the battery thing... What does everyone think I am some faggot who wants to make minimal techno in the middle of a forest or something ??? hehehe... I want a laptop more so I can have something that's easy to use in live sets where I'd be using plug power anyway... If I wanted to make music on a battery I'm sure I'd figure out a way anyway... Buy an extra battery and use low cpu music programs would be one, but I'm not buying it to do that...

most people think that people who need laptops want portability. so that is why people mention the battery.

hehe I was just kidding about that, the idea of doing something like that, if possible, is becoming interesting to me, even if I have to buy a spare battery

well, for a budget of 2000$ you"ll not get much trouble to find a good machine .
my opinion is that Dell/toshiba/sony dont give enough for you money. Search online shop and you'll find all the good answer you need and you'll get better info on your own that way then here without any doubt

I'm also in the market for a laptop. I just canceled my order at dell because they suck!
Apparently dell computers only work with the OS that it comes with. Also, they have a small sticker inside the box and if you open it, it will rip it and your warranty will be voided! I’m now looking into getting a Toshiba laptop from Bureau en Gros. Toshiba is supposed to be the best in the market for laptops.

so scott if you hear of any good deals going on this week or possibly the next, give me a shout.

My shitty laptop keeps overheating.

And hey, when I first started posting on ravewave I was helping my dad move up north, and a few times I ran a few hundred feet of phone and power extentions into the forest and was on ravewave and making music in the forest just outside of Val David.

Fun. :D

how come Im not surprised, you know toshiba make great laptops but just not for making music... you know if sony would only creat a laptop thats sturdy they would be the best thing to use... but untill that day comes I would try to go with a dell Ive seen/heard only good things from them but then again Im not windows machine expert when it coems to multimedia use... I only know about peecees froma buisness use side and know apples from a media making side of things so my opinion is useless for you as to me pee cees are for office work and apples are for fun... just as sun machiens are best as survers...
