Post images of paint, sculpts, photos or something that is artistic for you, and tell us a little why you like it or not.[Cause not liking a piece of art is also a reaction that some artist covet with enthousiasm towards the public (I'm thinking of Marcel Duchamps )], must be made by humans hands. This painting of Dali is quite something. Is not the technique that impress me, but the ideas behind the scene. When I look at it, at first I see martyr, misery, desolation. But then, with another semiotic level of perception I see hope, I see passion and freedom. Dali is fuck-top. |

 Coolness: 73920 | i think he actually he sees things with more clarity than most, though he portrays these visions in this amniotic concoction that has its roots in an artistic and politcal movement that was rebelling against an artistic norm. but that is art, technically, from a certain age onwards, it all becomes rebellious and an abstraction of the school of thought previously established.
i like dali, and i disgree with sarah when she says the content is crap. my feelings towards this piece draw out something of an emotional catharsis, to me it says quite literally, enlightenment. |

The ideas behind the scene are amazing in that one! Didn't knew this painting. My choice for 2day is Pieter Bruegel(1525-1569-the elder), "Procession to Calvary", is a flemish strange paint made in 1564. At first sight there's nothing so weird about it, but when you make a close up with a magnifying glass ( in normal size I guess you can see it 124x170cm), there's something very bizzare at the top of the mountain (in a book it's really MORE clear). There's 2 windows on the facade of the mountain + something being held underneath the mill ( and wtf a mill doing on top of a mountain?). My friend is telling me right now that the shit underneath the mill looks like a cheap space ship in 40' cartoon. (??? drop drugs Tommé).

and what does flying lions have to do with anything...so on that definition most abstract is crap, cos when im walking down the street i dont see random splatters or lines of color. Ever seen the riopelle exhibit... all abstract on huge canvas...fucking gorgeous work. just because the meaning of work cannot be grasped doesn't make it shit. Last time i checked i didn't make art for other people to understand, i made art formyself and for my own expression. |

[ www.ibiblio.org ] this is by hokusai (the great wave of of kanagawa, sp?), my choice of the day. its a relatively well known piece when referring to japanese print art. it actually inspired the decor to my room last summer, when i went on a made hunt for japanese prints to plaster my walls. |
