COALITION CALLS FOR SAFE INJECTION SITE

A coalition of addiction support centres is calling for the creation
of a supervised injection site for drug users in Montreal.

Representatives of CACTUS Montreal and the Quebec City-based Point de
Reperes told reporters yesterday that the war on illegal drugs has
only fuelled the transmission of HIV and hepatitis C.

The legality of such sites is being weighed by the Supreme Court of
Canada.
