avoid using a flash. it makes everything flat. if you're going to take pictures of the dj, don't just stand there in front of him with your flash taking a million pictures it's going to get annoying. |

Geez, guys, Im sure you mean well with your advice to Tranci but like nobody here has been REMOTELY constructive in terms of answering the questions except Mickos, and since he didnt cover digicam, here goes (I'm not a pro photographer but I do have quite extensive experience with party pics):
* do NOT run with a form or any other piece of cutlery in your mouth :) * Taking pics close up, flash is ok. Don't bother with it when you're taking crowd pics (unless they are not far at all); instead - use long shutter speed (I assume you have the option) and you will capture great, although a bit blurry, colorful pics. * Taking pics of lights or people dancing with glowstics or flashy paraphenelia can be fun.You can set your cam to double-shutter and try not to move, and you will get a fairly clear souble-surreal pic. * Using no flash and long shutter speed for extended exposure when taking pics of people up close CAN work, but you and your subject have to stay absolutely still. Great results when done right - you will get a nicely saturated pic of your subject with crazy colorful blurry motion in the background (see Jazzfest pic in my profile for an example) * Forget sepia toning in raves. It just doesnt turn out. * Take close up pics of turntables with alternating focus on equipment and on the dj. When you only have auto-focus, this can be accomplished by opti-zooming in and out fast when you got flash ready and pressing the button as soon as you see the desired focus on the viewscreen. I'm sure theres much more but I cant think of anything else at the moment. If you got any more particular questions, I'll be happy to answer if I can. Enjoy! |

i have a feeling tranci is more of a point and shoot photographer, hence why i didn't mention anything about aperture or shutter speed. |

Taking pictures at raves is easy.
All you do is close your eyes and point the camera. Well at least thats what I do, and here are some of my pictures: [ www.ryanpfeiffer.com ] Ryan |

While it may somewhat benefit me to improve my concentration on a specific task at hand instead of doing everything at once and arguably narrow down my circle of coital activity (the two notions being what I meant by my aforementioned remark), it would surely greatly benefit you, Jordan, to learn when keep your mouth shut and not to make stupid remarks which backfire. Kinda like the above one. I hate to point it out, but you know very well, that in terms of serious approach to life I left you far behind in the dust, my telemarketing-working, 23-living-with-mom friend. Misunderstand me not - that is not to say I think I am better than you; nobody is better than the next person and everybody is free to live their life as they choose; HOWEVER success does imply that I am at least a tad more serious than your meddlesome self. As for stability, well, It could be argued that having the perfect stable & steady significant other may beat spontaneous fairly uncoordinated visceral activity in which I tend to indulge but I think the latter still beats NONE, which is, sadly, your case. To all readers other than !Phoenix!, my wholehearted apologies for this outburst - for a multitude of reasons I'm in bitch-mode today. That being the case still doesnt render anything I've said invalid, Jordan. |

Coolness.
I didn't end up bringing my cam. It was pretty dead. I'm sorry to say it you guys, but the rave scene in the Meritimes is non-existant... or dead. It's just myself and a few fellows that brave this world out in these pine tree boonies. Lucky us. :( |
