SMOKING INCREASES RISK OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Smoking more than doubles the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease,
according to a Dutch study of nearly 7,000 people. Smokers studied were
also likely to develop these conditions earlier -- at an average age of 77,
in comparison to age 81 for former smokers and age 86 for non-smokers.
Smoking is known to narrow blood vessels and promote formation of blood
clots. This is "probably more important than previously thought in the
(development) of Alzheimer's disease," the researchers say.
