pros: large storage capacity. at its highest rate, 40 gigs. transfer rate is fine if youve got firewire, but im using usb 1.1 (gag) and i still managed to drop my entire mp3 collection on it without a hassle. it took 8 hours, but oh well. thats life. organization is key: if your id3 tags are fucked, youre gonna spend a lot of time organizing your music. orgnization: genre/title/author/composer/year/playlist .playlist capabilities are there, yes. can be generated easily depending on what software you chose to use the pod with. avoid at all costs: music match and iTunes. they're both crap. ephpod is doable if you dont want to spend any extra dough but my preference is undoubtedly anapod explorer. it integrates with explorer in windows. no hassle. easy management of a mass quantity of music. screen display, this is what apple wont tell you. there are white backlights and blue backlights (its merely a tint, but if you compare the two against each other, the blue backlight is just a notch clearer). you will not know until you open the box. apple hasnt standardized this for some reason. there are six default games. you can sync with your contact list, your calendar and your notes in outlook. (ipodsync is what you look for here). the music quality is pristine, it goes bloody loud if you combine your volume settings with the wired remote. and as far as the quality goes, i have no complaints as of yet. i can hear the impurities on certain tracks just as clearly as i can hear a solid bassline. snap, crackle, pop and all. its distinct and audible. extremely clear. |

| Coolness: 74005 | about the battery... alledgedly the lithium ion their using is "appropriate cost-wise for this particular product". you're looking at 2-3 years average lifespan. if you take care of it, then longer. if it dies you can replace it yourself and void the warranty for as low as 50 bucks or get the 99 dollar plan with apple and they'll do it for you. i dont buy this video thats circulating right now, apple's taken precautions against it.
scuffs and scratching: theyre are plastic compounds as low as five bucks to remedy external wear and tear should that come to it. my suggestion, preventative methods like the exo skins or a good case. lastly, 20gig or 40gig and nothing less. they also come with the dock, remote control, earphones and such where the 10 and 30 dont have the dock. i love my pod. my boyfriend loves his pod. our mutal friend and our mutal friends ex-girlfriend love their pods. and im sure, if jackie were back from ottawa shed tell you the same thing. |
