distortion...
inform/discuss/reveal anything related ! mostly, i'm interested in various distortion plugins/VSTs (especially free software :P ) ... which ones do use use/prefer? Which programs do they work best in? (i use FL7) you don't have to reveal your "secret weapons" but, yeah, i wanna know what's good! And i want everyone else to know too :P i've been using my favorite Drive5 , but also these days using Distroyer & TriDirt (3 band distortion), aside from the SoundForge and FruityLoops effects. I picked up Killer, pretty shitty & Camel Crusher ain't bad, but the sound isn't that nice, same with the DriveStomp - which has an interface like an actual guitar pedal, and it's useful sometimes... yet, i still want more distortion... .. .

Try any guitar amp simulator (guitar rig, amplitube 2, etc) Antares tube is very cool too. Like Fred said Izotope trash is very good (very very flexible but a bit cold to me). Ohmforce just released ohmicide but i haven't heard it yet (audio demo button doesn't work on their site). Update » SourUltraFast wrote on Fri Jan 23, 2009 @ 12:50pm Or you can get an Ampeg SVP-CL bass pre-amp and set the gain stage at 11 ;)

[ bram.smartelectronix.com ] Cyanide is a great shaper with 2 LP/HP filters
[ destroyfx.smartelectronix.com ] DFX Geometer is just mental... a bit unpredictable though Update » giorgio_moisi wrote on Fri Jan 23, 2009 @ 12:41pm speaking of distortion - a bit unrelated, but I know NA will be interested: Merzbow is playing at Salla Rossa May 23 |

yeah, guitar amp sims are awesome for disto, and they make synths sound like wacky guitars...i've been using the Voxengo Boogex, it's great for kicks.
thnx for the smartelectronix stuff Georgio...and Merzbow in May!! That's great news! I looove Merzbow (every other set i drop some in there for extra intense noise :P) Saw him last time he came, it was quite the aural experience...thnx for the heads up!

ok total awesomeness.. Tascam US122-L just came in, now I need some new guitar strings and I'm gonna be trying out all of these distortions on the 7-string beast of doom ^_^
N.a., you still live around Hochelaga? soon as I get some monitors and a better graphic card (so I can dual-screen again) I'm thinking of putting together some industrial/metal/hardcore...

nice! i don't live near the Shlag anymore, but i'm still not too far from you, 'm @ st.michel metro, so that's ten blocks west pf pie-ix, and a dozen blocks north of you...working on a couple of hardcore/electro/metal/industrial projects (one is more just throwing some electronics into a metal band, the other is half half, and underway next week), but the more the merrier! i'm totally down for that man...

Screwhead, N.A, dont touch tascam in terms of cheap interfaces. THEY F..CKING BLOW SMEGMAFIED DICKS!!! Please trust me on this one: no NOT touch tascam for cheap interfaces: they dont sound that great and their drivers sucks asses BIG TIME! (blue screen of death and further more)
N.A: Get anything that allows you to loop any kinda cheap-o-external distos, and you'll find what you need. I have a D.O.D death metal, one of the worse distos for guitar but for (electronic)hardcore, MAAAN, it KILLLLS! just try it. i'm willing to lend it to you for a while.

heh too late, I've got it already.. All the reviews I read the worst anyone said about it was that occasionally the volume knobs will lag a little when you're fixing your levels.. (it's a US-122L)
I've got a couple of distortion pedals that are just bad.. fuckin' impulse buys :P I've got this nasty pink Ibanez pedal with a built-in Delay, and a couple of the controlls are in the battery compartment and you can only adjust them with a phillips head screwdriver.. The other is the Ibanez Cyberdrive.. It's a distortion with a filter after the distortion.. but it's really only got two sounds, too muddy or too harsh and treble-ly!

yeah real pedals are cool too, used to do that, but the sound was a little ghetto 'cause of the whole recording process...my shit's updated since, i should try again. but nothing makes a crappy toy synth sound great like a Metal Zone guitar pedal...
what's even funner is plugging in a metal zone (or any disto pedal) between your turntable and mixer...wut? the song's not harsh enough? Bam! slam on the pedal....NOW you have explosive* :P *ref: Future Sound of London track, not diarrhea
