GHISLAIN POIRIER
Montreal’s Ghislain Poirier is obsessed with big, dirty beats, an affliction that causes him create some of the most out of control ragga style riddims, and deconstructed abstract hip-hop to date. In the past Poirier has collaborated with MC’s and DJ’s from across the globe, working with NYC’s resident Large cats MC Beans (Warp) and DJ Rupture (Tigerbeat6), as well as Parisian heavy weights TTC (Big Dada) and London’s Lotek Hi-Fi (Big Dada) amongst others. Poirier has become renowned globally for his bass slammin remixes that continue to further solidify his title as “king of the bounce”. He has remixed tracks for UK grime/hip hop sensation Lady Sovereign (Def Jam), Les Georges Leningrad, Pulseprogramming and The Editors, all to much critical acclaim and garnering him attention from publications such as [ pitchforkmedia.com ] and XLR8R Magazine. In 2005 Poirier released the album ‘Breakupdown’ on Chocolate Industries, the record was well received by the public and press alike, and as a result he was offered the opportunity to perform during a North American tour with the loudest midget in the game herself, Lady Sovereign. Since then, Poirier has been throwing down his own successful monthly DJ night in Montreal, ‘BOUNCE LE GROS’. An evening that features what Poirier describes as “Bass and no attitude, Gros sound, Gros Beat, Gros Move, Bounce le Gross”. A master in the art of making people move, Poirier’s night of genre Mashing provides enough bass to fill the place, attracting a mixed crowd that appreciate his dirty style, tasty beats and eclectic flare. Spinning music that flows effortlessly from global hip hop, grime, Bali beats, Booty bass, crunk, Baltimore and much more is this DJ’s signature stamp, a sold out party month after month. Poirier decided to release his next body of work on his own imprint, and as a result started the label "Rebondir Records" on which he released his "Rebondir e.p” earlier in 2006. This legend in the making is touring the world extensively playing the underground club circuit. Keep your ears open, your feet in check and be prepared to Bounce! |

yes i think its safe to say that Gizzy will bust some Baile Funk, as well as some grime crunk reggaeton and well, who the fuck knows really i guess! as far as DJing etc, I think anyone that thinks DJing is all about beat matching two records together can learn a lot from DJs like Poirier. success is the best indicator of ... you know what i mean.. so heads better recognize. here's a message from Ghislain :

its obvious that when the BBC's asking you to do a mix of a specific super obscure style of music, well you're so respected and considered as a professional

SARCASTIC
Founder of Montreal-based underground electronic music pantheon Level 4 Productions, this amorphous being has contributed to the subculture's cabalistic causes on many levels for the past decade as label manager, DJ, producer, promoter and music critic. Possessed since childhood with a needling drive to splice together discrete musical compositions, first with cassette decks, microphones, CD players or 8-tracks, it was only a matter of time before Sarcastic was introduced to his lifetime partner: the Technics 1200. His love for the chugging repetitive nature of techno, acid house and hardcore genres remains informed by an early appreciation for hip-hop, stoner rock, jazz and psychedelia of all sorts. Equally at home behind two or three decks, Sarcastic's diversity has allowed him to perform alongside many of his musical mentors: NYC's Frankie Bones, Detroit ghetto-tech DJ Assault, Stockholm's Thomas Krome and Slobodan or London breakbeat stars Freestylers or Deekline. Lengthy local residencies have seen Sarcastic spinning anything from pure tek, minimal and experimental techno to acid, breakbeats, DnB, booty, house and tek-house; recently championing the "vinyl" movement, Sarcastic is even known to work classic rock, funk, hip hop, trip hop, blues, jazz and bluegrass into his carefully programmed DJ sets. [ www.level4productions.com ] hECtiC hECtiC is a device borned into this era and developed over a decade ago in Montreal, Canada. It's main function was mixing Jungle and Drum & Bass sounds.
