I wasn't talking about these guys, the Dj's posting in this thread are all great Dj's...I'm actaully not gonna mention names cause theyre on this site and their feelings would surely crumble into dust, I mean hey! If they wanna try they can right?

the bottom of all of this is that Ghetto Tech music straight out of D-city (detroit for all you lame mother fuckers) is the greatest music EVAR!!!! and it kick's drum and bass' ass any day of the week. It's like hip hop on staroids, how could that be bad...?

I'm not gonna lie, i own drum and bass and jungle records, i like alot of drum and bass and jungle stuff (particularly the jump up jumgle...) but i hate a lot of it (all the metal head oriented stuff)...Like i've said before just not enough funk not enough soul to it for me...

i have a lot of respect for Dnb...
problem for me is that too many people who are into it take themselve a wee bit to seriously...and go nuts anytime anybody says anything other than that Dnb is the be all and end all of all electronic music, just chill man, everyone knows that you love your music...
I'm feeling surly right now..

it's not necessarely because records are easy to beatmatch that they are easy to mix per say... as a psy dj I find that respecting the structure of a track is really important to keep the energy going through your set... to many breakdowns will bore a crowd, not enough will tire them...

and anyways, a dj does not play records... he plays the crowd
I'm feeling a storm brewing right now..

regarding hip hop...

just because its slow doesn't mean its easier to mix at all...

most hip hop dj's don't beat mix half as long as electronic dj's either...

simply because you can't the way the tracks are constructed...

hip hop is all about timing and cuts that are alot less predictable than most electronica.

your dealing with alot of vocals and very few instumental parts... you really have to know your tracks and where the chorus is and when the vocals start and stop...

not to mention it helps to have multiple copies for instrumentals and if your dj'ing with an m.c. and it helps to know how to "extend a break" to build momentum and give the m.c. a chance to flex out (something trance dj's don't know shit about).

and don't even get me started on juggling..

so ya...

from the words of the jungle brothers and the afrika zulu nation...

"IF YOU WANNA BE A D.J... STUDY ROC RAIDA!!!"

Uhh, yeah thats right...ppl who think theyre Dj's and cant mix shouldnt get booked because a couple of ppl think theyre good...you need years of opinions and practice...why the fuck would I let someone shittier than me think theyre actually good? I'm gonna tell that person that their crap and not get their hopes up...especially if theyre playing GIGS! For christ sake!

i think this is what reggie's getting at...

a good dj doesn't mix psytrance on c.d..... a good dj mixes ANYTHING in ANY FORMAT.

psytrance is mearly one boring and extremely limited genre...

now go buy some hip hop and learn to dj for real!!!

I think this thread is very silly and prejudice and a huge waste of words.
Most PROFESSIONAL DJs have LISTS of genres they play either on vinyl OR on cd. This includes PSYTRANCE DJs. If they dont play anything else they start to produce which is to be taken a lot more seriously than being a fucking DJ playing one style of music only.
The point is - as long as you are having fun and making other people have fun thats all that matters. If you want to make a career out of it you HAVE TO play other styles OR make your own damn music.
