DISTURBED BY POLICE SEARCH OF COLUMNIST

Regarding the piece by Chris Cox, "`Reasonable articulable suspicion' of
police trumps a person's rights?" (AC-T, Dec. 29).

The horror story reported by Mr. Cox, who allegedly was terrorized by the
Waynesville police at 3 a.m. was immensely disturbing. This is the
beginnings of the police state.

We Americans are supposed to be free to go about our business without being
searched and (given the third degree) at the whim of the police.

Our Founding Fathers had enough of this to write down the fourth amendment
to our Constitution.

The Waynesville Police Department apparently hasn't the respect for the
liberty "guaranteed" by our fourth amendment to be allowed to function as an
armed force any longer.
