FIVE GRADUATE FROM DRUG COURT

JAMESTOWN - Five people graduated Monday from the city's Drug Court during
the program's fourth ceremony, which was held in City Council chambers.

Family members and friends looked on as several members of the local
judicial and law enforcement community spoke, and the graduates spoke. Drug
Court coordinator Cathy Newton said 28 people have graduated from the
program in two years. Newton said each graduate must abstain from drug or
alcohol use for a year and work toward completing education and obtaining a
job.

Newton was named coordinator in February. Before she assumed the post, Drug
Court was staffed by volunteers, with the assistance of Jamestown police,
City Court and the Chautauqua County district attorney and public
defender's offices.
