ANOTHER 'WAR' LOST
In spite of being referred to as a member of the "lunatic fringe" by Gen.
Barry McCaffrey, Judge John L. Kane demonstrates his clarity of thought and
strong conviction for speaking the truth in his enlightened piece regarding
the negative impact of our nation's War on Drugs ("America in a fix," April
27).
As I get ready to retire after more than 35 years in the field of substance
abuse treatment, research and education, it is clear to me that in the case
of the drug war, the cure is far worse than the disease. The results are
another lost "war" and the loss of untold civil liberties.
