MORGAN SCHOOL BOARD TO LOOK AT STUDENT DRUG-TESTING

The Morgan County Board of Education will follow the lead of its
neighboring school systems and discuss the need for a student
drug-testing program in a work session tonight at the central office.

"This is just something I want to discuss with the board,"
Superintendent Don Murphy said. "We want to look at the finances and
how much it will cost. If the board is interested, we'll form a
committee and start to form a policy."

Morgan County is the third school system in recent months to discuss
testing students involved in athletics and extracurricular
activities. The Decatur school board held a work session Monday night
to hear a report from a committee on implementing a testing program.
The committee has been studying drug testing for the past 15 months.

The Hartselle school board recently began looking at the issue after
controversy erupted following the collapse of two baseball players at
the high school in February.

The work session begins at 5:30, followed by the monthly meeting at 6:30.
