LOOK SMOKIN' IN EARTH-FRIENDLY HEMP CLOTHES

The name hemp still spawns confusion and controversy. For the record, it is
only a cousin to the marijuana plant, and smoking hemp will give you
nothing but a rotten headache.

It is a strong natural fiber that grows in long prolific stalks and
produces a soft linenlike highly durable fabric. The good news for
environmentalists is it is grown without harsh chemicals. And it is
versatile. It helps wick moisture away from the body, is mildew resistant
and blocks out the sun's harmful rays, so the fabric is especially fitting
for active wear.

This simple shirt (pictured) with fashionable tucking detail is by Of the
Earth. It is made of organic cotton, hemp and Spandex for stretch. So it
goes from the gym to the beach to the casual office. The fabric mix is also
available in such items as blankets, table linens, sleepwear, baby clothes
and bags.

The shirt is $30 at It's Only Natural, 407 W. Gregory, where a percentage
of sales goes to local charities.
