WRV STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT RED RIBBON WEEK

SWITZ CITY -- White River Valley High School was one of several high
schools across the country who celebrated Red Ribbon Week.

Community Alliance to Promote Education (CAPE) student support
counselor Rebbeca Harris said that every day, facts about drugs and
drug use were announced over the intercom in the morning.

Different activities were scheduled throughout the week.

On Monday, Dum Dum suckers were given to students during lunch
periods. Also on Monday, students and teachers were given red
bracelets -- representing being drug free. Red ribbons were also
placed on all vehicles in the school parking lots.

On Tuesday, Smarties and Tootsie Rolls were handed out to students at
lunch. Tuesday was also hat day. Students could wear a hat and
purchase a sticker for $1. All money will be donated to Greene United
Against Meth (GUAM).

The first red star day was Tuesday. Twenty-five red stars, with drug
trivia written on them, were placed throughout the school. If a
student found the star and could answer the trivia correctly, they
received a prize.

On Wednesday, students received Twizzlers at lunch. Students were also
able to compete in an obstacle course in the gym on Wednesday.

The second red star day was Thursday. Students also received Big Red
chewing gum and mints at lunch.

Michael Cooper, a recovering alcoholic, spoke to the student body on
Friday morning. He shared his story of struggle and success with students.

At lunch Friday, students were given Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispie
treats.

Between lunch periods, a costume contest was held. Students were
