FELGER FOR HARM REDUCTION TO MAKE COMMUNITY SAFER

Harm reduction is what Mission needs in order to make the streets and
neighbourhoods safe.

At least, that's what Mission mayoral candidate Tim Felger thinks.

Felger, who is also running for councillor in Abbotsford, is known for
his pro-marijuana and anti-prohibition views.

But in his run for mayor, Felger is promoting a four pillars approach
to homelessness, prostitution and drug addiction.

"I'm not just a one-issue candidate," Felger said.

"I'm a harm reduction and environmental candidate."

His four pillars approach would mean detox centres, treatment,
rehabilitation and education about the use of crystal meth and other
street drugs.

"Harm reduction is our way to peace in the war on drugs," Felger said.

"Parks are for kids, not campsites for the homeless."

Felger says if elected, he would use [police] enforcement as a last
resort and make marijuana the lowest arrest priority.

Where marijuana growing operations are concerned, Felger says he would
bring in business licences to regulate the number of plants in a
grow-op and to ensure electrical, fire and community safety.

If he is elected in both Abbotsford and Mission, Felger thinks it
would be a great way to regionalize issues that need addressing in
both Mission and Abbotsford.

"A regional harm reduction policy and a regional approach for all
issues would be a better way of addressing the issues," he said.

"It doesn't matter what anyone says about marijuana, there are still
needles in the parks, addicts and homeless in the streets - the
policies we have now aren't making those things go away."
