CRACK DOWN ON DRUGS CONTINUES

Local law enforcement continues to crack down on drugs in Robertson
County.

This week, officials at the Springfield Police Department and the
Robertson County Sheriff's Office made four separate drug busts.

Robertson County Sheriff's Office makes ecstasy bust

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, at about 3:45 p.m., Detectives from the
Robertson County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant on the
home of Phong Huynh located at 3003 Burts Crossing in Springfield,
according to a prepared statement.

The home was in the Glover Hill Estates off Highway 49 West. Upon
entry of the home, detectives seized 1,000 units of ecstasy (MDMA),
the statement reads.

"This was a very sophisticated operation," said Det. Sgt. Randy
Henderson with the Robertson County Sheriff's Department.

"This is the most ecstasy we've ever recovered here at the Sheriff's
Department."

Linh Huynk, 29, and Vu Le, 23, were arrested and charged with
possession of a schedule one narcotic for resale. Their bond was set
at $50,000 each. They will appear in general sessions court Feb. 27,
police said.

The street value of the ecstasy recovered in the case was about
$200,000. Detectives also seized $5,000 and a handgun. Financial
records for the home and business were also seized.

Henderson declined to comment on how detectives found out about the
operation.

Robertson County Sheriff's Office makes marijuana and cocaine
bust

On Friday, detectives from the Robertson County Sheriff's Department
arrested Charles Groves, 59, of Cross Plains on drug charges.

Officers recovered about a half-ounce of marijuana, 13 grams of crack
cocaine and four grams of powder cocaine, according to Henderson. The
street value of the cocaine is about $60 to $100 per gram

Henderson said that Groves was arrested at 8126 Friendship Road in
Cross Plains at about 12:30 p.m.

"We received information that he would be carrying a large quantity of
cocaine in the form of an anonymous tip," Henderson said.

Officials said the marijuana was found in the trunk of Groves' 2000
Cadillac. The suspect was also selling whisky out of the trunk as well.

The cocaine was found on Groves.

"He had it pinned to the inside of his pants," Henderson
explained.

Officers also recovered a case of whisky, a shotgun, and $249 from
Groves.

He has been charged with possession of schedule two for resale and
possession of schedule six for resale. He is being held at the
Robertson County Jail.

Springfield Police Department makes marijuana bust

Detectives from the Springfield Police Department have arrested
Michael Toon, 23, of 104 North Walnut St. on a charge of possession of
marijuana for resale.

The bust was made on Nov. 8 at about 9 p.m., police
said.

According to Springfield Police Lt. William Watkins, Agent Chuck Bogle
received an anonymous tip that Toon was in possession of a large
quantity of marijuana.

Bogle executed search warrant at Toon's residence and found a little
over a pound of marijuana, about $1,200, digital scales and a handgun.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Robertson County Jail.

Watkins said charges are pending involving the handgun that was
recovered during the bust.

Toon has been released on bond this week. He is scheduled to appear in
court Dec. 5.

On Friday, detectives from the Robertson County Sheriff's Office
executed a search warrant at a residence located at 4940 Williams Road
in Cross Plains at about 12:30 p.m.

Henderson said police recovered about a half-ounce of
marijuana.

A confidential informant alerted officers to the residence.

The suspect, Ricky Chatman, age unknown, will go before the grand jury
in the future, Henderson said.

"We are taking drugs off the streets and we will continue to do our
best to make Robertson County drug free and a safer place to live," he
