JAILER, WIFE JAILED AFTER DRUGS FOUND

CALERA - A Bryan County jailer and his wife wound up in jail after Calera
police found methamphetamine in his truck.

Sunday, Calera Police Officer Kurtis Smith pulled over a truck driven by
Ronald Rogers, for failure to use a turn signal. Smith's report states the
driver could produce a valid driver's license, but said he and his wife
borrowed the truck and could not locate the insurance papers.

In the report, the officer said Rogers appeared to be nervous while looking
for the insurance papers. Smith said Rogers was talking very fast and
bouncing from one foot to the other, while he dug through the stack of
papers. Inside the truck, Roger's wife Barbara continued to search through
papers trying to find proof of insurance.

Smith's report states while he was standing at the open driver's door,
watching the passenger search for the insurance papers, he saw her place a
shirt over the top of a white pill bottle that was laying in the seat near
the driver's side.

According to the report, Smith asked her what was in the bottle and she
took the top off and waved it in front of his face telling him the bottle
was empty. White states he noticed something in the bottom of the bottle.
When he asked about it she opened it again and waved it in front saying
again, it was empty.

The report said when asked what was in the bottle again, she became nervous
and her voice cracked. At this time she reached in the bottle and pulled
out a clear plastic bag that contained a white powdery substance and handed
it to Smith. The white powdery substance field tested positive for
methamphetamine.

The report states that Smith then called the Marshall County Sheriff's
Office and Atoka County asking if he could bring his prisoners there for
safety reasons. Both stated their jails were full and refused to take custody.

The couple was taken to Bryan County Jail where they were both booked for
possession of methamphetamine. According to the report, Rogers agreed to
talk to Smith saying he wanted to be cooperative with law enforcement. He
stated he had gotten the meth earlier from a house in Durant and filled out
a voluntary statement that he had used meth that night.
