DEFENCE FILED IN SUIT OVER CRYSTAL METH

A woman from Biggar and her adult son have filed a statement of
defence in a civil law suit that claims they are responsible for
selling crystal methamphetamine to a woman who almost died of an overdose.

Sandra Bergen and her parents, Stan and Georgina Bergen, who also live
in Biggar, allege that Clinton Davey sold crystal meth to Sandra in
May, 2004, and that Dalis Davey knew that her son was selling the
highly addictive illegal drug out of her home. The allegations in the
Bergen's statement of claim filed with the Court of Queen's Bench in
Saskatoon last month have not been proven in court.

In their statement of defence, Dalis and Clinton Davey state that
Sandra Bergen voluntarily consumed illegal drugs, contributing to her
own condition. They also state that because Bergen was engaged in an
illegal act, she should not be allowed to sue them.

"Parents should not be held responsible for the actions of their adult
children. The Plaintiff, Sandra Bergen, and Clinton were adults when
the alleged incident took place," said the statement of defence filed
with the court on Oct. 27.

The Daveys also deny the claim that Dalis knew illegal drugs were
stored in or sold from her home.

Also named in the Bergen's lawsuit is "John Doe" the person who is
alleged to have supplied Clinton Davey with the crystal meth. The
Bergens are seeking general damages in excess of $50,000 as well as
special damages.

Neither Dalis nor Clinton Davey could be reached for comment.
