$2 MILLION TO SUPPORT PROGRAMS FIGHTING CRYSTAL METH USE

VANCOUVER - The B.C. government released $2 million Monday to support
community-based programs aimed at fighting crystal meth.

The Union of B.C. Municipalities will administer the funding.

The money provides up to $10,000 in seed grants for public awareness
campaigns to alert the public to the drug's dangers.

One such campaign is the Meth Watch program, which creates meth
awareness training for teachers and parents.

"Communities have a vital role to play," said Solicitor-General John
Les.

"They are the closest to the problem and, with these grants, will be
in a better position to find innovative solutions."

The grants are the first part of a $7-million funding package
announced by Premier Gordon Campbell in September.
