ROUND MOUNTAIN WOMAN DIES; POLICE CHARGE HER ALLEGED SUPPLIER WITH MURDER

Robert Grimes Arrested For Supplying Methamphetamine

When Danielle McCarthy drove Anthony Boothman and Robert Grimes from
Round Mountain to Reno on Nov. 9 to buy drugs, she had no way of
knowing the trip would lead to her death two days later.

Nor did Grimes, 35, expect to be charged with murder for supplying
McCarthy with the methamphetamine that killed her.

According to a report issued by the Nye County Sheriff's Office, the
trio drove to the Peppermill Casino where McCarthy and Boothman gave
$400 to Grimes. Grimes later confirmed that fact in a taped interview
with a Nye County investigator in Tonopah.

McCarthy and Boothman stayed in the car for two hours while Grimes
allegedly met his connection inside the casino.

When Grimes came back to the car, the three drove to a gas station
where Boothman alleged Grimes met someone who was waiting in a parked
car. Boothman also said Grimes walked over to the other car and got
into the front seat on the passenger side, returning a few minutes
later with a bag of drugs.

Grimes disputes that story. He stated to the investigator that the
reason the trio stopped at the gas station was to put air in a car
tire, not so he could buy methamphetamine.

Once on their way home, Boothman alleged Grimes gave him the
methamphetamine, which weighed close to one ounce. Boothman said he
put the meth into the glove compartment.

The group arrived back in Smoky Valley at about 4 a.m. on Nov. 10.
Boothman told the Nye County investigator that he and McCarthy began
snorting the meth they purchased from Grimes.

Boothman also said the drug made him and McCarthy sick, yet by the
next day, Boothman and McCarthy had each ingested one gram of the
methamphetamine.

Boothman called the sheriff's office later that day after taking a
shower and returning to the living room to find McCarthy
unresponsive. In his statement to the officer, Boothman confirmed
that he flushed the remaining methamphetamine from the Reno purchase
down the toilet prior to the arrival of law enforcement personnel.
McCarthy was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m.
on Nov. 11.

Boothman reportedly told police he and McCarthy had lost their jobs
and planned to sell methamphetamine to pay their bills. He also
alleged Robert Grimes purchased meth on trips to Reno, returning with
enough to sell and use.

An arrest warrant and search warrant were served on Robert W. Grimes
on Nov. 14.

An investigator followed Grimes' vehicle and stopped him with the aid
of two additional patrol cars that pulled to the front of the
suspect's car. Grimes was taken into custody without incident.

The search warrant was served at Grimes' residence and a canine was
used to sniff Grimes' bedroom. Items found at the residence may be
used as evidence.

Robert Grimes remains in custody and has been charged with
second-degree murder in the death of Danielle McCarthy. The
investigation is ongoing.
