WOMEN LEAD WAR VS DRUGS

MUNTINLUPA City is turning to girl power in the fight against drugs
next year.

The Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Office (DAPCO), under the theme
"Empowering Women, Key to Drug Abuse Prevention," will be tapping
women to realize its vision of making the city drug-free by 2010, city
hall announced yesterday.

Dapco said women have a vital role in the program as they would be
able to closely monitor members of their family who might be
susceptible to drug abuse.

They will also be tasked to educate and create awareness among their
family members on the bad effects of illegal drugs.

Dapco has also planned a series of family-based programs as part of
its antidrug campaign which will be implemented in 2006.

Early this year, the office started posting stickers on the homes of
families which had been declared drug-free to make the city's pursuit
of drug traders and abusers easier.
