PROGRAM EQUIPS FACILITATORS

RCMP Drug and Organized Crime Awareness, in partnership with Langley
School District, Langley RCMP and How to Drug Proof Your Kids (DPYK)
are offering training of additional facilitators Dec. 2-3, at the
Aldergrove Community Police Office.

DPYK is a community-based program that equips parents and caregivers
with tools and strategies, enabling them to strengthen their families
and more effectively steer their children away from the harmful use of
drugs.

It's not just about kids saying "no". It's about equipping parents
with the tools to teach discernment.

DPYK complements D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) - a social
skills program which seeks to provide children with information and
skills needed to live drug and violence free. Students are taught to
use a four-step decision-making model to make healthy choices and take
charge of their lives. Langley School District leads in 100 per cent
support of both D.A.R.E. and DPYK, giving its students the best
possible chance to live drug and violence free.

Police officers, auxiliary constables and community policing
volunteers from Hope, Langley and Ridge-Meadows detachments will be
participating. In addition, parents from numerous Langley schools will
be training as facilitators, sponsored by their schools' Parent
Advisory Councils. These committed parents and community volunteers
will then lead a six-week program for parents in their respective
communities.
