VOLUNTEERS BRIDGE TRANSITION UNTIL DRUG POLICY COORDINATOR IN PLACE

To the editor:

The Central Okanagan Four Pillars Coalition has completed the crucial
part of its mandate of establishing a framework for the Central
Okanagan to address problematic drug use, and has restructured to
better reflect where we are in the process.

In that the recommendations came from the community as a whole, we
applaud and thank the citizens of the Central Okanagan for their
insight and creative solutions.

Now it is the responsibility of the drug policy coordinator to put
action to the framework. We are encouraged to hear that Mayor Shepherd
is fully committed to ensuring the drug policy coordinator position is
filled as soon as possible.

Until the drug policy coordinator position has been filled, we are
entering into a transition stage wherein the co-chair positions have
been dissolved and a transition team has been struck. It is
anticipated that the capacity of the Four Pillars Coalition will
evolve to that of community advisors to the drug policy coordinator.
(See story on page A13.) Volunteers for the transitional team include:
Brian Mairs, Carmen Lenihan, Catherine Williams-Jones, Shane Picken,
and Shelley Cook.
