MAN CHARGED WITH TYING UP HIS WIFE TO STOP POT SMOKING

CARTHAGE - A man who told police he tied up his wife to prevent her
from obtaining marijuana Friday night is facing a charge of
second-degree unlawful imprisonment, according to village police.

Joseph C. LaForgia, 24, was released Saturday on $500 bail by Village
Justice S. Lucille Shettleton.

His wife, Danielle M. LaForgia, 20, was cited with unlawful possession
of marijuana.

Police said Mrs. LaForgia's stepmother reported at 8 p.m. that the
woman was in need of assistance. Mrs. LaForgia was able to answer the
door, but told officers that her husband had earlier tied her up with
packaging strap, police said.

Mr. LaForgia admitted he had restrained his wife, but only by tying
her foot to his, police said.

"She wanted to go across the street," he said, "and smoke pot,"
according to police. He than produced a bag of marijuana and a bowl
from a kitchen cupboard, police said.

Mrs. LaForgia eventually admitted the substance was hers, police said.
