PUPIL HELD AFTER DOG DRUG BUST
Sniffers Sent In For Search
A PUPIL has been arrested in the first ever sniffer dog drugs bust at a
Scots school.
The 17-year-old was held during a random swoop at Kingussie High School on
Speyside.
The pupil allegedly owned up to carrying cannabis as kids waited to be
searched by police handlers and two dogs at the 406-pupil school.
Northern Constabulary said that the pupil would be reported to the fiscal
in connection with alleged drugs offences.
The pupil has also been suspended from all classes by Highland Council.
Head teacher Eddie Broadley said the operation proved they were being
vigilant and that drugs in school would not be tolerated.
He added: "I continue to be concerned about any drugs-related activity
within the school population. We can never be too careful where these
matters are concerned."
Monday's operation took place after a request by the council's education
department following concerns over drug use.
Earlier this year pupils were warned that police could be called in to
carry out random searches at any time.
Chief Inspector Andy Walker said: "Drugs are a scourge on decent society
and will not be tolerated.
