WRITER HAS HIS FACTS WRONG ABOUT POT

To the Editor:

In response to the letters to the editor dated Dec. 5., I also want to
thank Stephanie Theissen for sending in the poem "I am Meth". I was
fortunate to receive a copy of it from a recovering meth addict.

This is a powerful poem and an eye-opener for parents and loved ones
who may have an addict in their life.

I have had the opportunity to speak to many recovering addicts in
recent months and let me tell you, in contrast to what Anthony Jensen
has to say, the majority of them have told me that, in fact, marijuana
does lead to other drugs such as meth, cocaine, etc.

Articles such as Mr. Jensen's are dangerous for our young people. They
tell our children that pot is okay.

In my opinion, I think maybe pot smoking has warped Mr. Jensen's way
of thinking.

Mr. Jensen, as far as your comment that this poem sounds fake, I find
that a very cold and offensive remark.

It was written by a young lady who obviously suffered immense pain in
her short life, who was deceived into thinking she would be better off
using drugs.

Your comment is tantamount to spitting in her grave.

As for "re-educating" journalists, I will tell you I have also
researched and educated myself and it is a gateway drug.

My knowledge comes from AADAC as well as recovering addicts who
travelled that road.

Where do your facts comes from Mr. Jensen?

Our young people need to be taught they can get "high" on life.
Involvement in sports, family, friends, spirituality.

There are so many ways to achieve a "high" without destroying your
mind, body and soul.
