POT CLUBS A COVER FOR ILLEGAL DRUG DEALING

Regarding "Pot clubs call raid warrants illegal" (Local, Dec.
19):

Of course the pot clubs thought the warrants were illegal; they didn't
want their very profitable, questionable activities
interrupted.

I was attending a meeting on Rosecrans across the street from NSD, one
of the marijuana stores that received the warrants. I first noticed
this shop several months earlier because of its large garish letters.
I decided to walk up and down the street after my meeting. I noticed
that all the clientele were very young males, nary an obviously sick
or elderly person in sight.

Thank goodness the Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating
these marijuana dispensaries, which should be more appropriately
called marijuana stores. They are using sick people as a cover for an
activity that is just plain old drug dealing.

The Union-Tribune ought to watch who goes into the stores and find out
what the neighbors and other storeowners think about the clientele who
frequent them. Like any poorly regulated business with a high degree
of cash product lying around, dispensaries are a crime magnet.
